Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire, a quiet area within the West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" area. Most people who do not know the name mistakenly believe that it is the West Island extends westward from Montreal. However this is not the case. West Island includes everything westward of Montreal, including the town of Lachine. It is often cited as the place of birth for Amanda Brugel but while that is the case, her stay there was not long. Brugel grew up in Courtice near Oshawa Ontario. She had a dream to be a professional dancer. However, the growth rate of her body meant she literally outgrew the dancers she was with. According to an article in The Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6 feet one inch. Once I had outgrown my males in my group, I decided to quit. In Brugel's case, it was her encouragement from the drama instructor at her high school, which prompted her to begin acting. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to pursue a role for the school's annual production. A teacher suggested that she take on a part in the school's annual production. This resulted in an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and graduated with the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Since then, for the more than 20 years since then, Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions on both screens, receiving the most media attention, when she landed the character of Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel is the only Canadian of the Season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast and only seen occasionally was the sole Canadian.
